Bio

River Tam.

Little Soul. Big World.

From a very young age, River Tam was beyond precocious. She was discovered by the Alliance and sent to a school for gifted children where they were experimented on her mind for the government's own ends. After several years, River was rescued by her brother Simon, who gave up a lucrative medical profession, and a group of people who were trying to stop the government's experiments. Brother and sister fled to the outer planets in search of refuge.

This refuge came in the form of Captain Mal Reynolds and his ship Serenity, an old Firefly-class freighter. Just like River and Simon, Captain Reynolds and his crew are wanted by the Alliance and eager to stay two steps ahead of any government. While Simon's medical expertise serves him in good stead taking care of the crew, River remains a mystery. Although her ability to read thoughts has its advantages, she is also prone to unpredictable violence - in addition to making foreboding predictions and sometimes making no sense at all.

Words.

River: I remember everything. I remember too much. And some of it's made up, and some of it can't be quantified, and there's secrets, and... But, I understand. You gave up everything you had to find me. You found me broken. It's hard for you. You gave up everything you had.

Patron: The girl is a witch.
Mal: Yeah, but she's our witch. So cut her the hell down.

River: Wrong about River. River's not on the ship. They didn't want her here, but she couldn't make herself to leave. So she melted. Melted away. They didn't know she could do that, but she did. I'm not on the ship. I'm in the ship. I am the ship.

River: Permission to come aboard?
Mal: You know, you ain't quite right
River: It's the popular theory.
Mal: Go on. Get in there.

Simon: I am very smart. "Gifted" is the term. So when I tell you that my little sister makes me look like an idiot child, I want you to understand my full meaning. River was more than gifted. She was a gift. Everything she did, music, math, theoretical physics - even-even dance - there was nothing that didn't come as naturally to her as breathing does to us.

Mal: The government's man, he says you're a danger to us. Not worth helping. Is he right? Are you anything but a weapon? I staked my crew's life on the theory that you're a person, actual and whole, and if I'm wrong you'd best shoot me now.
